Case Study: Opportunity Framing for an Offshore Carbon Capture & Storage Project

At the start of a complex project, the most important task is often not developing a detailed schedule. It is ensuring that everyone shares a common understanding of what the project is intended to achieve.

For an early-stage offshore Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) development, Langenberg Management was engaged to design and facilitate an Opportunity Framing Workshop. The objective was to align technical and business stakeholders on the project's vision, objectives, scope, constraints, and long-term development strategy before entering subsequent project phases.

Creating a Shared Project Vision

The workshop brought together stakeholders from multiple disciplines in a structured decision-making process. Rather than allowing individual teams to develop separate interpretations of the project, participants worked collaboratively to establish a shared understanding of the project's direction.

The discussions explored the project vision, strategic opportunities, constraints, scope boundaries, and the factors most critical to long-term success. Particular attention was given to identifying key value drivers and the strategic decisions that would shape future engineering, commercial analysis, and project development.

Langenberg Management's Contribution

Langenberg designed and facilitated the workshop, prepared the strategic decision framework, and guided multidisciplinary discussions to translate diverse technical and commercial perspectives into a coherent project foundation.

Outcomes

The workshop delivered:

  • A shared project vision and aligned strategic objectives

  • Clearly defined project scope and boundaries

  • Identification of critical success factors and value drivers

  • An initial project development roadmap

  • Alignment between technical and business stakeholders

By establishing strategic clarity at an early stage, the engagement provided a solid foundation for future engineering, commercial evaluation, and informed project decision-making.
